The 21st UN Vesak Celebration in Wuxi brought together representatives from 67 countries to reaffirm the Buddha’s teachings of compassion and peace. The event was organized by the International Council for the Day of Vesak and the Buddhist Association of China. In light of global challenges such as conflicts and environmental crises, the declaration emphasizes the relevance of Buddhist principles to peace.
The declaration consists of four key points:
- Peace: Promoting love for one’s neighbor, compassion, and dialogue.
- Altruism: Combating poverty and promoting international cooperation.
- Ecology: Protecting the environment, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and fostering harmony between humans and nature.
- Community: Working toward a shared future for humanity.
The declaration concludes with a call for peace, cooperation, and wisdom to overcome global challenges
